Too cute: it's Furniture Porn.

There's something about running late that upsets me in a way that few other upsetting things do. We postponed our regular Sunday teahouse excursion today to attend the farewell party of some friends who are leaving town. Said party started an hour ago, and guess where we're not?

Darling spouse is in the midst of a project, see. Our wireless network hub died last week, and he, because anything less would be a betrayal of his training as an MIT engineer, had to take it apart and figure out why. Turns out that Apple's reputation for quality design doesn't quite extend to networking components; the smooth, shiny Airport shell confined a board that was unfortunately prone to overheating in the absence of adequate ventilation. I guess adequate ventilation would have required somehow perforating or puncturing the smooth shiny surface, which was of course a no-go.

When he concluded that the failed components were merely a pair of capacitors, suddenly just going out and buying a new wireless hub offended his sensibilities. "Capacitors are fifty cents a piece," said he, "and I can just solder them on."

Periodically, throughout the course of my marriage, I've longed for wife lessons. If someone could just explain to me how to break through a man's single-minded throught processes and enlighten him to a perspective other than his own, I'd be willing to pay large amounts of money. At any rate, since I have yet to discover such a solution, I found myself basically talking to hear myself talk: you don't have a workspace to do this, we don't even own a soldering iron, it's simpler just to upgrade anyway, you don't have the time for this, tomorrow is our Together Day and we're going to the party, remember?

Alas.

In protest, I should probably go do some school work, something which I have been expressly forbidden from doing during our Together Time.

Remember the first computer game that ever got you, well, addicted? Mine was Tetris.

The Competitive Sport of Cup Stacking. It would be silly if it didn't look so difficult.

When you think of a cathedral, you usually think of a reasonably pretty building, right?

Wrong.

Think suburban doctor's-office complex eyesore. Poor Los Angeles.
